The history of the club can be summed up quite accurately in one word: turbulent. Founded in 1913, it had to wait 80 years for sporting success. Financial problems began at the start of the new millennium (controlled administration in 2003-07) and reached their peak in 2015, when the club went bankrupt and was relegated to Serie D. It returned to the top flight in 2018 and most recently in 2024. For many years, the team has been playing its matches at the Stadio Ennio Tardini (the sixth oldest stadium in Italy), which can accommodate approximately 22,000 fans. It is difficult to say that the facility is ‘pretty’, but at least it is easy to find the sector indicated on the ticket.
Several well-known players have played for Parma, the most famous of whom is probably Gianluigi Buffon (nicknamed Gigi) – the legendary goalkeeper of Juventus and the Italian national team. Other members of the hall of fame include Hernan Crespo, Hristo Stoichkov (one season, a complete failure), Gianfranco Zola, Dino Baggio and Carlo Ancelotti (yes, THAT Ancelotti). Interestingly, the club’s website, in the ‘Legends’ section, makes no mention of Stoichkov (OK, he had one poor season) or… Buffon!
The match was similar to the one in Cremona the previous day: a very weak first half (two shots on goal) and a much better second half. When Pasalić scored in the 89th minute, it seemed that the visitors would take home all three points, much to the delight of their numerous fans in the stadium. However, the home side did not give up and, thanks to Cutrone, who was acquired from Como, they equalised six minutes later.
Zalewski played 65 minutes for Atalanta, having joined the team somewhat unexpectedly after a spell at Inter Milan, but he did not stand out in any particular way, except perhaps for three glaring losses of possession in the first half.
After the final whistle, the home fans continued to sing club songs for a long time, perhaps trying to conjure up a rather brutal reality: there are no prospects for a return to the glory days of the 1990s.
